Why does the double dummy analysis deactivate after play of each card (trick) when using the handviewer's link? Is this problem long-standing?

It's the way it has always been. The persistent DD was something that was added later in the BBO display, but never retrofitted into handviewer.

It would be useful, especially now that the implementation in BBO display has been improved.
A third party alternative is to install the bridgesolver extension to Chrome/Edge.
