1NT for me. I won't pass and it's the bid that bothers me the least since it gives us a chance at every strain if it's right.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

prefer 1nt. I got an awfully nice hand given I am a passed hand.

Switch my h and spades and I would have opened one club. :D

Yup 1NT. I'm not as keen on these stopperless 1NT bids as some people seem to be but there isn't really a decent alternative here.

1NT here...we may miss a game if we pass and PD is max. PD can check for a stop later if he is max, and considering 3nt.

1NT
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

1NT, but I suspect there is a twist, since Wayne is the poster. :D

Depends who I'm playing with, clear pass with one partner who will never have a decent hand for a simple overcall, 2 with the other who will WJO with a bad hand so will have a better hand than mine for the overcall.

If one spade denies a decent hand, I assume that is an alert bid. What do they bid with a "decent hand" and 5 spades?

By a decent hand I mean one that will make game opposite this, up to about 12-13, beyond that will start with a double.

I play his system, not my preferred method.

eh?

No twist except the rest of the auction. I thought this was the first juncture in which the table action was questionable.

At the table the player with these cards passed. The auction then developed:

(PASS) PASS (1) 1
(PASS) PASS (2) 2
(PASS) ?

How much catching up do you have to do now?

Anything other than 1N the first time around is terrible.

I would bid 3D now.

I think that 1 NT is clear cut and that this should be standard with balanced hands even without a stopper.

If I had passed for tactical or other reasons, I would try 3 Diamond now.
Kind Regards

Roland

3 now, and I think I've actually got my hand across OK, reasonable hand, no real spade fit, no diamond stop.

Really hate our pass over 1. Game could easily be on opposite an opening hand, so I would bid 1NT which is the lesser of evils than everything else.

I wonder, if I had passed (and partner trusts that I would bid with this type of hand) and the auction proceeds as suggested, does bidding 3 say to partner that you forgot to bid on the previous round? Has anyone ever catered to that?

Anyway, if I had passed I would now bid 4.
